Secretary Blinken Meets with Mexican Foreign Minister

Mexican president seeks to avert involvement in U.S. midterm debates.

On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard to discuss immigration. President Biden’s administration has increased the focus on Latin America as the midterm elections draw closer.

Mexican President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador responded the previous day to the announcement from Mexican authorities of the registration of 6,000 undocumented migrants in the country on Friday and Saturday. President Lopez Obrador said that Mexican laws had not changed, but that his government was putting extra effort to curb undocumented immigration ahead of U.S. midterm elections so that there was not “an influx of migrants in these days.”

“We don’t want to see the migration issue and Mexico to be part of the debate in United States,” the Mexican president stated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Blinken as he addresses the migration situation coming through Latin America.
  • For the president and secretary of homeland security as they evaluate their border policies.
  • For U.S. officials as they interact with Mexican counterparts regarding the unique issues between the neighboring countries.
